Blue Dawn Flower (Ipomeoa Indica)

Here is our much loved Dawn Flower (Ipomeoa Indica — also known as blue morning glory, oceanblue morning glory, koali awa, and blue dawn flower) in a brilliant display this year. It claims to enjoy full sun.. but ours has mostly shade and is quite happy, much to our enjoyment.

Up close. Didn’t realize the one flower was ripped.. must have been one of the crows or squirrels that like to eat them as snacks. The humming birds drink them from the back of each flower, most unusual to watch.

In sun

Harder to see, but the best display day.. in early morning shade.

Baby Violets

I had forgotten about this image. One of my families Sweet Violet plants had been damaged last year on accident, I had put it in water in an attempt to save it – (which it worked for those interested, replanted and re-established) It wasn’t until I placed the remains of the plant in water that I realized it had seed pods on the base of the stem cluster.

The next morning the pod opened and dropped the seeds into the bottom of the dish. I never knew what Sweet Violet seeds looked like having been given the plant originally as a cutting to spread around my yard, so this was a wonderful experience. My families favourite flowers.

Carolina Jasmine

One of the few plants that will bloom around here in the middle of winter. It’s fun to see it mixed in with holiday decorations. So full of joy and happiness, and smells wonderful too!! The frost has darkened the points of the leaves, but it’s hardy and blooming through it. Here are a couple of images to share.

Carolina Jasmine, beauties.

Red

Here is one of my families ol’ friends. We’ve had this hardy red geranium.. for what must be at least a decade now. We take trimmings of it and spread it around the yard, and friends yards. It’s a happy plant.

Pink

Purchased some new flowers for the yard to bring some desperately needed colour back in. The areas frost at the New Year forced me to trim everything back. There are new leaves at the base of my ol’ friends, but they are far from flowers themselves. The new ones are all safe against the house and I bring them in on colder nights (goes from 80º F down to 42º F at night!!). Here is a pretty Pink crawling geranium. It’s a tiny plant now, but when it matures and cascades over the side of the window sill it’s going to be very pretty!!

My Hawaiian Smiles Hibiscus just produced the 1st two beautiful flowers of the season.

Two hours after taking these images they were fully unfolded flowers.. but the buds are so pretty.. thought I would share them.

A wee peak through the trees

This was a lucky catch. I love this image.

Rainbow through eucalyptus trees. Natures frame to an untouchable object.

Same sunset, different photographers.

I was skimming through various peoples tweets and came across a picture that struck my memory. Not two weeks ago I took a picture of a brilliant sunset that matched. I uploaded my film tonight and the dates match too. Scottish lad Sam Heughan (@samheughan) and I seem to have taken a picture of the same SoCal sunset, almost at the same time, I either captured it late.. or early.

What a magical feeling.

Ironically, I took a picture of the sunset the day before also.. that looks more like a match. Date on the image is proof though.. Fun stuff. *cheers* Mr. Heughan.

Sam’s picture and mine. Only slightly off time and I’m a fair distance from the coast.

Here is my image from the day before.. the stunning colours match, but the clouds.. not so much now that I look at it again. Thought I would share regardless, as it is a beauty too. Enjoy.

My Ash does bark

The bark of my beloved Ash tree.

I find the details fascinating, “stop and smell the roses” type of capture.
